The image of firefighters fighting a raging fire is generally the first thing that comes to mind when the Fire Dept is mentioned. While this is the primary function of the department, the services provided by the CFD#1 encompass so much more. The majority of calls that CFD#1 respond to are medical calls. Fire prevention is the key to saving lives. Our firefighters inspects all of the districts businesses, schools, and multi family dwellings, not only to look for potential problems, but to make themselves familiar with these buildings in case an emergency should arise. We work with the Caddo Sheriff Office and Local Police Departments on a regular day to day basis, thus helping us serve our communities better. Rescue, another major part of what we do, it is essential to preserve life and property. Extrication of motor vehicle accident victims, natural disaster search and rescue, and S.A.R. Operations for lost persons in rural areas are some examples of this service . Water evacuation from a flooded home, gas leaks, hazardous material situations, and downed power lines are all handled by the department. Also educating our children as to how to "get out" in the event of a fire is very important to us. Yes, we even assist vehicle owners that have the misfortune of locking themselves out of their vehicle.
